The upcoming series will reportedly be helmed by Joe Henderson, co-showrunner of Netflix’s Lucifer.
A new live-action show based on the popular Pokémon franchise is reportedly in development at Netflix. Lucifer executive producer and showrunner Joe Henderson is said to be on board as writer and executive producer of the new series.
With Lucifer in its final season, Joe Henderson has a few other projects in development in addition to the Pokémon adaptation. He is currently working on a series adaptation of a comic book he had written, Shadecraft, which is also set to be developed for Netflix.
Although no details about the plot and storyline of the new series have been released, sources did say that it would bear similarities to the film Detective Pikachu. The 2019 film made history by becoming the first live-action Pokémon movie. Ryan Reynolds voiced the titular Pikachu character, a computer-generated version of the popular Pokémon character.
Beginning as a series of videogames based on a series of fictional creatures who are a part of the titular species, Pokémon has extended its reach into different forms of media, including film and television. Pokémon the Series, originally a Japanese anime television series, gained global popularity and has been adapted into different international broadcasts.
The streaming giant has witnessed a huge audience for the anime shows it has available on its platform at present, including Castlevania and Naruto.
