Top 5 new-age Bengali horror dramas to enjoy this Halloween and Bhoot Chaturdoshi

Traditionally, this is the time to enjoy Anik Dutta’s Bhooter Bhobishyot, Aparna Sen’s Goynar Bakshi, etc. However, there is a lowdown in some new-age Bangla horror dramas from the OTT space.

Halloween and our very Bhoot Chaturdoshi are upon us. Nothing can beat the spookiness of this season. This is the time to explore horror films and shows across the world. In Bengal, ghost stories often go beyond the realm of spookiness and add comedy, romance, and other elements. Traditionally, this is the time to enjoy Anik Dutta’s Bhooter Bhobishyot, Aparna Sen’s Goynar Bakshi, and even the classic Monihara from Ray’s anthology Teen Konya. However, there is a lowdown in some new-age Bangla horror dramas from the OTT space. 

Meanwhile, Parambrata Chatterjee’s Nikosh Chhaya will also be dropped on Hoichoi on October 31. Bhaduri Moshai, aka Chiranjit Chakraborty, will make a grand comeback after last year’s Parnashavarir Shaap. Surangana Bandyopadhyay and Gaurav Chatterjee will also be in the show. But until its release, here are the top five supernatural thrillers packed with Bangaliana.

It will be a great idea to rejig your memory of Bhadhuri Moshai’s first on-screen outing. Four friends’ fun holiday in the hills turns into a nightmare when they experience the wrath of a fiery deity. Directed by Parambrata Chatterjee, this show will send chills down your spine.

This Anirban Bhattacharya’s superhit film is not just spooky but also successfully blends in comedy. With Satyam Bhattacharya, Surangana Bandyopadhyay, and Debraj Bhattacharya in the lead, the film is a heartwarming horror rom-com.  

Bhootpori 

Streams on Addatimes 

As Soukarya Ghosal’s Bhootpori makes its way to the International Film Festival of India this year, the film calls for a rewatch on Addatimes. It has its share of thrill and chill but it also depicts a fabulous human story of a young boy and an ancient ghost. With Jaya Ahsan and Ritwick Chakraborty in the lead, it is a must-watch this season.

Streams on Hoichoi 

Directed by Arindam Bhattacharya, this film features Soumitra Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Tnusree Chakraborty, Mamata Shankar, and others. The story delves into the life of a newlywed couple – Arka and Sayantani. The latter starts experiencing the unexplained presence of entities in their new flat. This is a film that will keep you glued to the screen this season.

Taranath Tantrik is a Bengali horror web series that is directed by Q. Taranath Tantrik is a character created by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. It is an intense Indian horror series that features Jayant Kriplani, Koushik Roy, Joyraj Bhattacharya, and others.
