Comedy Films To Watch On CinemaWorld

The make-believe world of cinema is a mirage that we have accepted as our escape from the real world into an imaginary place where we are the audience for a story unfolding. It could be good, bad, funny, or ugly, but we will not be the ones facing the consequences in the end. Genres have been essential and have existed since the very beginning of cinema, but they have seeped into pop culture conversations much more recently. One of the genres that is highly underestimated is comedy. If you look at it closely, it is the most difficult because how do you make someone laugh, stay hooked on your story for the entire runtime, and also give them a story that is substantial and not just for the sake of it? In India, the experiments around comedy were rampant at one point but then got monotonous.

But time and again, one film comes and changes the perception, setting the ball rolling in the right direction again. This is the story for all the industries as they try to crack the code to a perfect comedy film. CinemaWorld is a platform that serves its users content from across the world. This is a platform where you can find the most celebrated, nuanced movies from world cinema without any language barrier. There are films from all corners of the world, including Sinhalese cinema, Bulgarian cinema, and much more. It is also a platform that has a separate section for comedy movies that come from different industries but are hilarious and quite well-made. Some are slice-of-life humour, some find comedy in the most absurd places, and some try to educate with humour.

Comedy Movies on CinemaWorld

The Carer (2016)

Cast: Brian Cox, Coco König, and Maitland Chandler.

Director: János Edelényi.

The humour in The Carer a British-Hungarian film, is quite understated. These are two people with aspirations: one with the dream of becoming a stage artist in the English realm and a man on his deathbed seeking his last wish. So when they meet, they become each other's source to fulfil their desires, and the comedy is born out of that. Here is Brian Cox in front of the camera, and do I need to say anything more? The Carer deserves to be on your watchlist for how interestingly it tells a story of unfulfilled aspirations and how they bother us till the end.

Standing Up For Sunny (2019)

Cast: RJ Mitte, Sam Reid, and Matt Nable.

Director: Steven Vidler.

He is a boy who has fought cerebral palsy and still continues to do so. Having self-isolated, the anger in him has only found a little vent with no more space to store. But when he sees Sunny, an unassuming comedian, he feels like he has a new life and wants to keep her close to him. He decides to impress her by setting foot out in the world and on the stage, finding motivation to ‘stand up’ and show her how much he loves her. Standing Up For Sunny is humorous, very clever, and emotional to the core. Watch this for all the good vibes.

Dear Lemon Lima (2009)

Cast: Savanah Wiltfong, Shayne Topp, and Zane Huett.

Director: Suzi Yoonessi.

Vanessa, a 13-year-old girl, suffers heartbreak and is convinced that the only way to win a guy back is by winning the Snowstorm Survivor championship. For this, she quickly forms a team and sets out to participate. Dear Lemon Lima is a brilliant piece of satire that looks at young people, society, its standards, and how the world is making peace with all of it. You must watch it if you want to see some coming-of-age drama.

The Grump (2014)

Cast: Antti Litja, Petra Frey, and Mari Perankoski.

Director: Dome Karukoski.

The humour in anyone or anything moving to a place that challenges their core grain has to be hilarious. A piece of an odd puzzle is entering another puzzle and now needs to blend itself in there completely. The Grump is about an old man who has found life in his old way of living. For him, it is the only and best way to live in the small village he calls home. But what happens when he is told to move to a place that is not just alien to him but is also a city that has progressed too far from what he calls the right lifestyle?

Polite People (2011)

Cast: Stefán Karl Stefánsson.

Director: Olaf de Fleur Johannesson.

Language: Icelandic.

It is a rather delightful comedy about a man trying to escape from one situation, entering into a bigger one and one that is much more deadly. A self-obsessed city dweller is desperate to leave the city and find new surroundings. He lies his way into a farming community, but little does he realise that he is actually entering a political war and will be standing in the centre of it. Polite People is hilarious with its humour, and you will be left asking for more.

You can watch all these movies on CinemaWorld with your OTTplay Premium subscription. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more on this and everything else in the world of streaming and films.
