Ahead of Daali Dhananjaya's next, Kotee, here are some of the Natarakshasa's films that are a must-watch for any fan
Daali Dhananjaya is currently prepping for his first solo release since Gurudev Hoysala. The actor is the protagonist of Parameshwar Gundkal’s directorial debut Kotee, which is releasing in theatres on June 14.
Ahead of the release of Kotee, here are a few films starring the Natarakshasa that could make for a good binge session.
The Suri directorial is a Shivarajkumar vehicle, but Tagaru was also a breakthrough film for Dhananjaya, who played one of the antagonists, a gangster called Daali. The role gave Dhananjaya’s career a fillip, following which he adopted the name as his signature moniker. Not only does he go by Daali Dhananjaya, but even his production house is named after his Tagaru character.

Dhananjaya’s debut home production was an action comedy that introduced filmmaker Shankar Guru to Kannada cinema. The film received largely positive feedback and was a commercial success. It also starred Amrutha Iyengar, Rangayana Raghu, Nagabhushan and Tara in pivotal roles.

With his second production, Dhananjaya got a tad ambitious and decided to bring the story of notorious gangster MP Jayaraj to the big screen. Initially planned as a multi-part film, there’s been no word on whether the actor will revisit the character, given that the film opened to mixed reviews and is rumoured to have not done well at the box office. The film has an ensemble cast including Vasishta N Simha, Loose Mada Yogi, Sruthi Hariharan, Raghu Mukherjee and many more.

Directed by S Ravindranath, Monsoon Raaga is a much more colourful and star-studded remake of the Telugu film C/O Kancharapalem. The film stars Rachita Ram, Achyuth Kumar, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, among others.

KRG Studios ventured into film production with this Rohit Padaki film that had Dhananjaya in the lead. A story of self-discovery and the value of relationships, Rathnan Prapancha was the first Kannada film to release on OTT during the pandemic.

Dhananjaya’s second film with KRG Studios had him in cop mode. A film set in Belagavi, this commercial film highlights honour killing and casteism. Also on the cast are Amrutha Iyengar, Naveen Shankar, BS Avinash, Achyuth Kumar, Pratap Narayan.
