Valentine's Day is round the corner and love is in the air. The definition of love may vary time to time, and generation after generation, but the concept has been rock solid in providing fodder to cinema. Time and again, filmmakers have flirted with the idea of love and relationships, which has evolved over time.

With the recently released Lover, starring Manikandan in the lead role, films in the recent times have focussed more the modern day dynamics of relationships and explored the various facets of love.

On that note, we curate you a list of titles that you can stream on digital platforms, that have explored the complications and highlights of modern-day relationships.

Love Today- Netflix

Directed by Pradeep Ranganathan, who also stars in the film along with Ivanna, Love Today is a film that set in the modern day and age where social media is a thriving factor in every relationship. The duo play lovers, who after one fateful incidence, agree to exchange their phones to one another on the grounds of trust. However, things take a different turn than expected as they understand and unravel more about each other. Love Today became a box office success and received much-needed debate on social media on how modern-day relationships work, the moralities, and psyche of today’s generation, while highlighting the concept of love.

Irugapatru- Netflix

A romantic drama featuring Vikram Prabhu, Shraddha Srinath, Vidharth, Sri, Abarnathi and Saniya Iyappan in the lead roles, Irugapatru is directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan. The film focusses on the life of three married couples , who face their set of struggles. While Shraddha plays a psychiatrist who give advices to couple going through struggle, the film by large talks about modern day relationship between married couples, including mental health issues, trauma, and expectations.

Dada- Prime Video

Dada starring Kavin and Aparna Das in the lead roles, was one of the box office successes of 2023. Directed by debutant Ganesh K Babu, Dada follows two individuals who fall in love and an unexpected pregnancy forces them to get married in a hurry. However, things take a turn when the child is left to be raised by the father single-handedly. The film talks about the responsibilities of early parenthood, the dynamics of young adults who are working, while trying to fix their relationships, and more importantly the dynamics and ability to handle work and discovering oneself.

Thiruchitrambalam-Prime Video

Starring Dhanush in the lead role, Thiruchitrambalam is directed by Mithran Jawahar. The romantic comedy drama not only focusses on the three generations of men living of one household, but also the titular character's journey to find his true love. Also starring Priya Bhavani Shankar, Raashi Khanna and Nithya Menen, Thiruchitrambalam is a film that talks about finding peace with oneself in order to find your true calling. The film passes through the various stages of the protagonist who try falls in love multiple times, only to find who does he truly wishes to be with.

Modern Love Chennai- Prime Video

The six-part anthology film is the Chennai chapter of Modern Love anthology. The films, directed by Bharathiraja, Balaji Sakthivel, Thiagarajan Kumaraja, Raju Murugan, Krishnakumar and Akshay Sundher, are different love stories taken from people's lives who come different walks. Starring Ashok Selvan, Wamiqa Gabbi, Ritu Varma, Sri Gouri Priya, Kishore, among others, Modern Love Chennai talks about love stories ranging from first love, to finding peace within yourself that your partner has found someone else.
