Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan to Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter: Popular films for action buffs to look forward to

John Abraham, Kangana Ranaut, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are also coming up with action flicks

There has never been a better time than this to be a fan of action films in the country. A host of Bollywood films promising high-octane action is gearing up for release this year and the next. And as an added bonus, all of them feature some of the whos who of the industry, so one can be sure that the films would definitely not lack in terms of some stellar performances. So mark your calendars, here is a list of some of the most highly anticipated action films awaiting release:

Pathaan

Pathaan is a special film for Shah Rukh Khan fans as it features the Baadshah of Bollywood’s comeback to the big screen after almost three years, after his last leading role in 2018’s Zero.

The upcoming film is touted to be a spy thriller that does not run short of high-octane action, and is written by Siddharth Anand and bankrolled by Aditya Chopra, Maxim Ajjawi and Alexander Dostal. In addition to SRK, the film will also feature Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, the latter reportedly playing the role of the film’s antagonist.

Pathaan will be released on January 25, 2023. The pan-Indian film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Attack Part One

John Abraham has made a name for himself as a celebrated action star in Bollywood, and Attack promises to showcase him in a way that the silver screen has not witnessed before. The action entertainer will see Abraham essay the role of a ‘super soldier’, engineered to ruthlessly protect the country from threats. The actor has even said that there are more surprises to come in the film, that the trailers and teasers have not given away. The film, directed by Lakshya Raj Anand, also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Rakul Preet Singh.

Part one of Attack will hit theatres on April 1, 2022.

Dhaakad

Kangana Ranaut is gearing up to portray one of her fiercest roles yet, in the upcoming film, Dhaakad. The action thriller film is said to revolve around the themes of trafficking of children and exploitation of women. The film is directed by Razneesh Ghai, and will also feature Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. Soham Rockstar Entertainment, Sohel Maklai Productions and Asylum Films have produced the film.

Dhaakad will be released in theatres on May 27, 2022, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

Tiger 3

After enthralling viewers in Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and its sequel Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are gearing to do so yet again with Tiger 3. The film will feature the return of Khan and Kaif’s characters in the previous instalments, Tiger and Zoya. Emraan Hashmi will essay the role of the film’s main antagonist. Maneesh Sharma has directed the film, which is bankrolled under the banner of Yash Raj Films.

The release date of Tiger 3 was announced recently. The film will release on April 21, 2023, coinciding with Eid.

Fighter

Siddharth Anand seems to have a lot on his plate at the moment. In addition to the highly anticipated Pathaan, the filmmaker is also helming another much awaited movie in the form of Fighter. Touted to be an aerial action film, the film stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone as the leads. The film will mark the first on-screen collaboration between Roshan and Padukone. Anil Kapoor will also play an important role in the film.

Although the film’s release date is announced as January 26, 2023, a change in release date is expected so that the film does not clash with other big releases such as Pathaan.
