With the weekend around the corner, the theatres are once again going to witness a variety of films releasing this week in Tamil
Even as we are almost completing two months of 2024, the Tamil industry has seen a mix bag of films so far. While small films like romantic drama Lover and sports drama Blue Star, have had a good run in theatres, big-budget films like Lal Salaam, Captain Miller, Siren still have been facing lukewarm responses.
However, it is another week, and that warrants for a new bunch of released in theatres. With weekend around the corner, the theatres are once again going to witness a variety of films releasing this week. On that note, here are the list of Tamil films hitting big screens this week.
Directed by filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha is a racy action film that stars Bigg Boss-fame actor Varun in the lead role. The film, certified U/A by the Censor Board, revolves around the hero who must take up the responsibility of saving a girl from the clutches of several goons. An action drama, the film stars Raahei as the female lead, with the cast also including actors Yogi Babu, Mansoor Ali Khan, Vichithra and Dhivyadharshini. Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha is backed by Vels Film International.
Mangai is a woman-centric film headlined by Kayal Anandhi. The makers had recently released the trailer of the film, suggesting that the film will talk about the pre-conceived and established gender norms imposed on women by the society. Expected to be a thriller drama, Mangai looks at some of the problems that a woman might have to endure while she undertakes a journey along with a man. It also demonstrates the negative impacts of social media judgements and moral policing. Mangai is directed by Gubenthiran Kamatchi and also stars Dushy, Adhitya Kathir, Shivin, Rams, Kavitha Bharathi, among others.
Written and directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Por is a Hindi-Tamil bilingual. Expected to be a campus action drama, the Tamil version stars Arjun Das and Kalidas Jayaram, while Hindi version will feature Harshvardhan Rane and Ehan Bhat. The Hindi version is titled Dange. Por will revolve around an intense rivalry between two young college students which leads to a huge riot. The film is said to be based on real characters from the director’s life. Sanchana Natarajan and TJ Bhanu play the female leads.

Thozhar CheGuevara, starring veteran actor Sathyaraj, in the lead role. Expected to be high on actions, emotions, and drama, the film is directed by Alex AD. Apart from Sathyaraj, the film also stars Rajendran, Nanjil Sampath, Cool Suresh, and Alex among others. The technical crew consists of Sam Alan handling the camera, with the music scored by PS Ashwin. Gowtham Rajendar is the editor. Anish Edmond Prabhu has backed the film under Grey Magic Creations.
From the looks of the trailer, Satham Indri Mutham Tha will be a thriller drama with a lot of mystery around it and violence. Actor Srikanth will play the protagonist, with Priyanka Timmesh as the female lead. Written and directed by Rajdev, the trailer shows how a hit-and-run case hurts a woman, who later gets admitted in a hospital resulting in memory loss. At the same time, there are section of people who are working in the dark for their own ambitions.
