Actor Manikandan, who is among the young crop of actors who have proved their acting prowess, is coming up his with his upcoming film, Lover. Scheduled to release on February 9, the film is written and directed by debutant Prabhuram Vyas.

Expected to be a romance drama throwing light on the complexities of modern-day relationships, besides Manikandan, the film also stars Sri Gouri Priya, Kanna Ravi, Saravanan, Geetha Kailasam, Harish Kumar, Nikhila Shankar, Rini, Pintu Pandu, and Arunachaleshwaran, among others. While he waits for Lover to hit theatres, here are three of Manikandan's best performances that you can catch on OTT platforms.

Aelay: Netflix

Aelay, released in 2021, is a film directed by Halitha Shameem. Starring Manikandan and Samuthirakani in the lead, this comedy drama is one of the early depictions of dysfunctional families in modern-day Tamil cinema. The film follows the troubled relationship of a father and son played by Manikandan and Samuthirakani, respectively. The film focuses on how a sudden turn of events changes the equation between the duo. Manikandan, who played the troubled son, exhibited a performance filled with honesty and dedication. With a side of humour and an emotional quotient, Aelay, headlined by Manikandan, is considered one of the family comedy dramas that has a nuanced take on the father-son relationship.

Jai Bhim: Amazon Prime Video

Jai Bhim, one of the earliest Tamil commercial films to embrace the direct premiere on OTTs, is a poignant take on police brutality unleashed on the oppressed. The film is based on a true incident that took place in 1993 when members of the Irular tribe were arrested by police on the wrong pretext and went missing, with advocate Chandru taking up the case to seek justice. While Suriya played Chandru, Manikandan played the Irular tribal, called Rajakannu, in the film. Met with a positive reception, Manikandan was hailed for his performance in playing the role with dignity and evoking an empathetic portrayal. In fact, Jai Bhim became one of Manikandan's most appreciated films, with many praising the actor for his mature performance. The film was directed by TJ Gnanavel.

Good Night: Disney+ Hotstar

One of the hits of 2023, Good Night, directed by debutant Vinayak Chandrasekaran, is a light-hearted family drama starring Manikandan as Motor Mohan. Good Night takes a simple conflict on how Mohan's snoring problem subsequently creates a ruckus in his marital life. Manikandan yet again proved his versatility by elevating the character in a simple yet nuanced manner. Offering a bit of comedy and emotion, Good Night received positive reviews upon its release. The film offers a wholesome movie-watching experience by taking a simple issue and presenting it in a beautiful manner. The film also stars Ramesh Thilak, Meetha Raghunath, and Bagavathi Perumal, among others.
