Malayali filmmaker Christo Tomy’s Curry and Cyanide, which is based on one of the most-widely followed cases in Kerala in recent times – the Koodathayi murders, is all set to begin streaming on Netflix on December 22.

The 90-minute true-crime documentary will take a closer look into the in vestigation of the unexplained deaths of six members of a family between 2002 and 2016, and the shocking revelation that the daughter-in-law, Jolly Joseph, of the first deceased was allegedly behind the killings.

Elanthoor human sacrifice case (2022)

Like the Koodathayi murders, the Elanthoor human sacrifice case also caught the attention of the entire country in 2022. The killings came into light after a relative of one of the victims had filed a missing-person case, the probe of which led the cops to suspect human sacrifice. Two women – both lottery sellers – were allegedly abducted, beheaded and buried by a couple and their aide to reportedly gain financial prosperity.

One user had commented on the trailer of Curry and Cyanide, urging Netflix to take the ‘Narabali’ case next as a true-crime documentary.

Aluva Massacre case (2001)

Another case that shook the consciousness of people in Kerala was the Manjooran mass murder or Aluva massacre case of 2001 – where six family members were murdered and the cops were left clueless about who had committed the gruesome act. The culprit, Antony Manjooran, was a family friend who had hacked all members to death including a 74-year-old and a 12-year-old, and stolen their gold ornaments and fled to Saudi Arabia. The case was reportedly the inspiration for the Malayalam movie Sethuramaiyer CBI, which had Mammootty in the lead.

One user had commented on YouTube that if Netflix makes a documentary on this case, it “will create history and will be discussed globally”. Another user remarked, “You will not sleep for days if you get to know the details of the case.”
