The sci-fi mystery-thriller is rumoured to release on June 17 on the OTT platform,
A screengrab from Churuli
Director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s latest film Churuli, which was showcased in the latest edition of International Film Festival of Kerala, is reportedly set to release on Amazon Prime Video. Reports suggest that the movie will release in June or July on the OTT platform.
The digital rights of Lijo’s previous movie Jallikattu, which was India’s entry to the Academy Awards this year, was also sold to Amazon Prime Video. However, there has been no official confirmation from the OTT platform or the makers of Churuli regarding the movie’s digital release.
Churuli, which is a sci-fi mystery thriller, has Vinay Forrt, Chemban Vinod Jose, Joju Geore and Jaffer Idukki in key roles. The movie follows two policemen as they venture into dangerous territory in search of an elusive criminal.
Unlike Jallikattu, Churuli got mixed responses while it was screened at IFFK. Talking about the movie in an online session at the film festival, Lijo said, “Churuli is a spiral labyrinth, where you lose track once you enter. But the film also poses existential questions like those in religious texts.”
The filmmaker also drew parallels between his other two movies Ee.Ma.Yau and Jallikattu and said, “All three movies question what lies beyond and I want the audience to ponder on this and find their answers.”
The film’s screenplay is written by S Hareesh, who had also penned the script for Jallikattu. Acclaimed cinematographer Madhu Neelakanthan cranked the camera for the movie, which has music by Sreerag Saji.
