This love ballad, soft and soothing, takes us through the silent journey of longing between partners that Liger and Tanya embark on during the course of the movie.
Liger the film, may not have had the desired impact on the audience but it's latest love ballad sure has something to offer that the feature, unfortunately, could not—a strong sense of reliability.
The gorgeously shot music video captures a lovesick Liger, and his beloved Tanya, frolicking around a desert in their convertible Recreational Van (RV). The aesthetics, without a shadow of a doubt, is inspired from travel content-creators travelling around the world wanting to meet people and re-discover themselves. In a different setting, drawing inspiration from YouTube videos would have backfired on a movie already grappling to pull in numbers amid a flurry of controversies. With Mera Banega Tu—composed by Tanishk Bagchi, written by Kunaal Vermaa and sung by Lakshay Kapoor—however, it sticks.
Staying true to the dominant theme of 'love over everything' for Liger, the song has wonderfully crafted lyrics that a hopeless romantic would resonate with: "Tu jis bhi jagah pe bersega vo, Dariyaa ban jaayega... Tu khwab me bhi jo aayega to, Akhiyaan rang jaayega" says a part of it. If not for the poor performance of the film, and the negative press that followed soon after, Mera Banega Tu had all the essential (musical) ingredients of becoming an iconic number in the romance genre.
For now, it will have to make do with being a hummable melody picturized on two good-looking people, kissing the night away... amid fairy lights and starry nights.
