Kevin Heart is back to steal the hearts of viewers and half a million dollars in gold. Oh, and did we mention, he will be lifting a whole, not half, an entire plane out of the sky in the process?
The Italian Job director F. Gary Gray is back with a gang of experts, led by Kevin Hart, who attempt to steal USD 500 million in gold, in order to prevent a massive terrorist attack and jail time. The film lands on Netflix on January 12, 2024. It also dropped its trailer on November 6, 2023.
The film Lift traces the story of Hart, who is Cyrus Whitaker, a master thief with an expert team, ranging from a master of disguise to a tech expert to a getaway driver. However, he gets into trouble when his ex-girlfriend Abby and the FBI catch up to him and offer him a deal he cannot refuse.
Lift half a billion US dollars in gold from a plane that is 40,000 feet high, in order to prevent a massive terrorist attack by cutting off its funding and get rid of jail time for the heisters. A sweet deal? Welcome to the massive problem of heisting an entire plane off the radar, that too a protected one at that.
The trailer features adrenaline-pumping action sequences, creative cinematography, as well as thrilling stunts. Despite the occasional touches of humor, the film appears a serious affair, being done on a used premise with a unique twist.

A result of Kevin Hart’s four-film deal with Netflix in 2021, the film is more oriented to his previous performance in Central Intelligence than the Captain Underpants movie. Though the film shares certain elements with the director’s erstwhile film The Italian Job, which was brimming with chases and cars filled with gold, the creative and unimaginable phenomenon of lifting a plane out of the sky remains a novelty for the genre.
Lift stars the iconic likes of Loki-fame Renslayer aka Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Daredevil’s Wilson Fisk-fame Vincent D’Onofrio, Money Heist’s Tokyo Ursula Corbero, Spy Kids: Armageddon actor Billy Magnussen, and Reginald the Vampire fame Jacob Batalon.
