Sharon Stone paid an aspiring Leo DiCaprio for their film The Quick and the Dead, instead of the Studio. Being a struggling actor back then, Leo recounted Stone's contribution in a recent interview.
The struggling days of very few actors and actresses are easy. Leo DiCaprio too began early, but his freshness and stellar performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, made Sharon Stone determined to cast him in their first film together, The Quick and the Dead. The 1995 film featured an experienced Stone, alongside an aspiring Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.
The Wolf of Wall Street actor shared with E! News that when TriStar Pictures refused to finance him as an actor, it was Sharon Stone who stood for him and supported his casting, despite paying to work with him from her own salary.
In the recent interview, DiCaprio stated that he has always been incredulous of Stone’s kindness and consistent desire to work with real actors, as she is a true champion of Cinema. The studio had told her, “Why an unknown, Sharon, why are you always shooting yourself in the foot?”But as Stone had clarified, “The studio said if I wanted him so much, I could pay him out of my own salary. So I did.” Why?
In her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, Stone had written all about hiring Caprio, “This kid named Leonardo DiCaprio was the only one who nailed the audition, in my opinion: he was the only one who came in and cried, begging his father to love him as he died in the scene.”
