LCU already boasts superstars like Kamal Haasan, Suriya, and Karthi, with Thalapathy Vijay's character Leo being the latest addition.
Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed his grand plans to expand the cinematic universe that he's creating. Known as Lokesh Cinematic Universe, abbreviated as LCU, already boasts superstars like Kamal Haasan, Suriya, and Karthi, with Thalapathy Vijay's character Leo being the latest addition.
Even though speculations about Leo being part of LCU were prevalent and widely debated before its release, Lokesh remained tight-lipped. He was determined to not reveal anything about Leo's connection to the earlier movies Vikram and Kaithi.
"I wrote this story (Leo) five years ago. At that time, neither Kaithi nor LCU existed," Lokesh Kanagaraj told Cineulagam.

He said that while he had already decided to integrate Leo into the LCU with the blessings of Vijay, he had a strong reason to keep it a secret until the film's release.
"This entire film is a character study of a person named Parthiban. And I wanted no deviations in the narration. My idea was the put the entire film on his (Vijay's) shoulders. That's what I have done in this movie. If I had revealed that Leo was part of LCU, the audience might have gained a lot of expectations. And maybe they would been disappointed after watching the movie. Since I didn't say anything before the release, George Maryan's character received a rousing response in theatres," he explained.
Lokesh wanted to prevent the audience from developing high expectations of seeing LCU's other main characters such as Kamal's Vikram or Suriya's Rolex in Leo. He noted that Leo was entirely Vijay's canvas and it could not have accommodated another star.

"There was not a lot of space in the narration to bring in other characters from the LCU. But, in my next movies, including Kaithi 2, I will bring all the characters together. Because that movie is not a character analysis like Leo. It's going to be an event film like Kaithi and Vikram," he promised.
