Vijay's Leo has collected Rs 12 crore on its first day at the Kerala box office, surpassing Yash's KGF 2's collections
The much-awaited action-thriller Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Vijay, recently broke box office records in Kerala. It had the highest first-day collection at the Kerala box office, which was not surprising given Vijay's popularity in Kerala and the hype surrounding the film. According to reports, the film raked in Rs 12 crore on its first day. The movie had phenomenal pre-booking ticket sales all over India, especially in the southern states, including Kerala.
Leo's reception proves that the audiences in Kerala have an affinity for films in other South Indian languages, especially Tamil. Leo and KGF 2 hold the record for the films with the highest first-day collections at the Kerala box office. Vijay's Beast and Sarkar collected over Rs 6 crore, while Rajinikanth's recent blockbuster Jailer made close to Rs 6 crore on its first day.

Mohanlal's films that drew audiences to theatres
Mohanlal's Odiyan is the third-highest opening grosser at the Kerala box office, behind Leo and KGF 2. Lucifer and Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham, which hold high positions in the list, prove the box office potential of Mohanlal. Despite being released on a strike day, Odiyan made more than Rs 6 crore, which is quite impressive.
Bheeshma Parvam and King of Kotha
Mammootty's Bheeshma Parvam raked in around Rs 6 crore on its opening day, despite being released in theatres during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it should be noted that while some films earn massive earnings on their first day, they may fail to keep up the momentum due to not meeting the audience's expectations. For instance, Dulquer Salmaan's King of Kotha, despite collecting around Rs 5.75 crore on its first day, couldn't keep up the momentum. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Leo can turn the massive initial collection into something big.
