The Madras High Court did not give immediate relief for Leo over the issue of early morning shows while ordering the Tamil Nadu government to reevaluate its decision.
The producers of Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming movie Leo took their plea to the Madras High Court, seeking permission for early morning screenings in Tamil Nadu . Following the hearing on Tuesday morning, the bench did not provide immediate relief to the producers.
The High Court bench headed by Justice Anita Sumanth has asked the Tamil Nadu government to hold talks with the producers, Seven Screen Studio, and reconsider its decision on the early morning screenings for Leo.
Madras HC order on Leo early show timings
Senior Counsel Srinath Sridevan, who appeared on behalf of Seven Screen Studio, argued that the government has not taken into consideration various facts that would allow theatres to run five shows per day between 9 AM and 1:30 AM.
"Leo's runtime is 2 hours and 43 minutes. When you factor in the time required for the audience to enter and exit the cinemas, as well as the intervals, each screening would take an average of 3 hours and 45 minutes. However, the total time allocated by the government for five screenings is 16 hours and 30 minutes. Our contention is that we need 18 hours and 45 minutes to accommodate five showings," Srinath Sridevan told the media after the hearing.
Srinath Sridevan also added that the bench saw validity in the concerns raised by the producers and directed the government to review its decisions and reconsider its order.
The producers and their legal team will now meet the representatives of the government to discuss the new terms and reach a resolution regarding the early morning shows for Leo.
In the present circumstances, Leo will open in Tamil Nadu only at 9 AM, while the shows elsewhere in the country will begin as early as 4 AM. Considering the fan frenzy surrounding the movie, the producers are pulling all stops to cash in on the hype by adding more shows across the state.
