Laver Cup 2024: 12 matches over 3 days, featuring players like Carlos Alcaraz, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, among others
The 2024 edition of the Laver Cup, the invitational event featuring six of the best of Europe players pitted against six counterparts from the rest of the world, is set to take place from September 20 to 22 at the Uber Platz in Berlin, Germany.
Team Europe’s playing six are Carlos Alcaraz, Grigor Dimitrov, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Rudd, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev. Dimitrov stepped in for Rafael Nadal, after the latter withdrew from the tournament. Bjorn Borg is the team captain.
Team World includes Frances Tiafoe, Alejandro Tabilo, Ben Shelton, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Taylor Fritz and Francisco Cerundolo. John McEnroe is the team captain.
The broadcast partner for the Laver Cup 2024 is Sony Sports Network, with live streaming to be available on SonyLIV. Owing to the time zone difference, day sessions will begin at 4 pm in India, while the night sessions start at 10 pm.
The lineup for Friday, September 20, will be announced on Thursday. Saturday’s lineup an hour after end of play on Friday and Sunday’s an hour after end of play on Saturday. On each day, the day session will have 2 singles matches, while the evening session will have 1 singles match and a doubles match.
The six members of each team will play 1 match each. 4 members of each team will also take part in the doubles.
Instituted in honour of tennis great Rod Laver, by former player Roger Federer, Tennis Australia and Brazilian businessman Jorge Paulo Lemann, the three-day tournament has four matches in a day – 3 singles and 1 doubles match. On Day 1, winning teams get 1 point each, 2 on day 2 and 3 on the last day. The first team to get to 13 points is adjudged winner.
To accommodate 4 matches in a day, each match has two-sets only and should the teams be tied with one set each, a 10-point tie-breaker is played.
