Laughing Buddha OTT release date: Laughing Buddha is director Bharath Raj M’s second directorial after Hero and has been produced by actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty.

Laughing Buddha, a comedy drama produced by National Award winner Rishab Shetty, with his close pal Pramod Shetty in the lead, came to theatres on August 30. The sophomore directorial of Bharath Raj M, who had made Hero earlier with Rishab in the lead, Laughing Buddha was a tale that the latter decided to back because he saw merit in it, and not just because Pramod would be the hero. The film had opened to fairly positive reviews and had a decent theatrical outing too.

At the time of the release, Rishab had said that despite his post-Kantara clout, he was not able to get a satellite or digital streaming deal for Laughing Buddha prior to its theatrical outing. Like most other Kannada films these days, Laughing Buddha has also found its way to Amazon Prime Video. According to the latest reports, Laughing Buddha will be available to stream on the platform from October 18. Hopefully, it is not a staggered release, with overseas first and then India, as was the case with Pepe, only days ago.

Cops being out of shape being the central theme of the film is what appealed to Rishab most, for which he got Pramod to pile on the pounds to play the central character Govardhan, a happy-go-lucky cop with a love for good food and an expanding waistline. Govardhan’s modus operandi to crack cases, is to gain the confidence of perpetrators by making them feel at ease by giving them home-cooked meals, as opposed to his boss, who prefers to let his lathi do the talking.

When a culprit ends up with amnesia before spilling the beans on where he has hidden some stolen loot, Govardhan is called in to try his hand to extract information. Will Govardhan succeed in this task? That is the crux of Laughing Buddha.

Pramod was paired with Teju Belawadi, with Diganth, Sundar Raj, among others, also on the cast. In fact, Diganth’s role was initially meant to be played by Rishab, but his Kantara schedules prevented him from being a part of the film eventually.
