If you are a fan of Tamil cinema, then you are in for a huge treat. This week will mark the arrival of some of the most awaited movies both in cinemas and on OTT. Starting from Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer to a humble slice-of-life drama, this week's releases offer a wide range of choices to suit your viewing preferences.

Jailer:

Jailer is just the biggest release of the week, but it's the most-awaited movie event of the year. A lot is riding on the success of Jailer as it will make or break Director Nelson's career. Nelson came under a lot of fire after his last movie Beast didn't live up to its pre-release expectations. And Superstar Rajinikanth revealed that he was under a lot of pressure to fire him post the critical fiasco of Beast. However, Rajinikanth went ahead with the project as he had full faith in Nelson's talents. It seems Rajinikanth is happy with the final cut of the movie and judging from the advance booking, the movie is set to take a huge opening worldwide. Besides Rajinikanth, the movie also stars Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Redin Kingsley, Vinayakan and Jaffer Sadiq.

Jailer is due in cinemas on August 10.

Por Thozhil:

Por Thozhil is directed by Vignesh Raja , who has also co-written it with writer A. Alfred Prakash. The film revolves around a police investigation into a series of murders targeting young women. The film has a compelling which examines the profound influence of a child's upbringing on their choices and character. The committed performances from the cast are a big plus, making it an engaging watch. The relatable characters and their struggles and aspirations will likely resonate with you. The film stars R. Sarathkumar, Ashok Selvan and Nikhila Vimal in the lead roles.

Maaveeran:

Maaveeran helped Sivakarthikeyan to bounce back from the commercial failure of his previous film Prince. The movie garnered positive reviews and also became one of the highest-grossing films in Sivakarthikeyan's career. Written and directed by Madonne Ashwin, Maaveeran is a social satire. The movie revolves around a timid individual named Sathya (Sivakarthikeyan), who is obsessed with self-preservation and has developed a strong habit of steering clear of any confrontation. However, when he accidentally gains superpowers, he's forced to face his inner demons and fight for the welfare of people. Maaveeran also stars Aditi Shankar, Saritha, Mysskin, Yogi Babu and Sunil.

Maaveeran will become available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video on August 11.

Vaan Moondru:

It's a slice-of-life drama, which is written and directed by debutant Amr Murugesh. Judging from the trailer, the movie tells the story of three intergenerational couples as they rediscover love, happiness and hope in the corridors of the hospitals. The movie stars Delhi Ganesh, Leela Samson, Aadhitya baaskar, Ammu Abhirami , Vinoth Kisan and Abhirami Venkatachalam.

Vaan Moondru will release directly on Aha Tamil on August 11.
