Raj B Shetty's Toby managed to get a streaming partner several months after its theatricla release
Gone are the days of Kannada films, at least star-driven ones, being able to recover much of their investment through pre-release post-theatrical rights sales. This includes TV, digital, audio and dubbing rights among others, with a major chunk coming from the OTT partner. For a while now, streamers have stopped outright sales of films pre-release and insist on a theatrical outing, no matter how small. Then, based on the evaluation of critics ratings, and the film's performance at the box office, a deal is struck. The buzz in industry circles is that several big budget Kannada films are delayed because the teams have not been able to crack the post-theatrical business deals.
