The team is set to release the film on April 29
In June last year, Kannada cinema lost National Award-winning actor Sanchari Vijay, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident. At the time of his demise, Vijay had three films ready for release, Puksatte Lifeu, Melobba Mayavi and Taledanda. While Puksatte Lifeu released last year, it is now the turn of Melobba Mayavi to get a theatrical outing. The team has announced April 29 as its release date in theatres.
According to the team, led by debutant director B Naveen Krishna, Melobba Mayavi, in which Vijay plays a character called Iruve, who suffers from achromatopsia, a condition in which a person has partial or total absence of colour vision. The crux of the movie, according to reports, revolves around the sand mafia in the coastal belt of Mangaluru. However, the film’s tagline, ‘War self vs Selfie’ is apparently in reference to a controversial incident that occurred in Kerala, where a tribal youth was beaten to death and a person took a selfie with this in the backdrop, which sparked outrage. The team has not confirmed this, but have reportedly said that Melobba Mayavi is about hunger and poverty.
The film, which was earlier dedicated to the late music composer LN Shastry, who was working on this film at the time of his demise, will now be released as a tribute to Sanchari Vijay as well. Following Shastry’s death, his wife Suma worked on the background score. Melobba Mayavi also stars Ananya Shetty, Pavithra Jayaram, Krishnamurthy Kavattar and Chandrachud Chakravarthy in pivotal roles. The film has produced by Shetty Bharat under the banner of Sri Kateel Cinemas.
