The late Lata Mangeshkar, who, over her illustrous career garnered many accolades including the Bharat Ratna, once gave up a Filmfare Award.

According to News18 the singer refused to accept the Filmfare trophy for best playback female singer for her song ‘Aaja Re Pardesi’ (Madhumati, 1968). Her reason was that the award, shaped like a woman, was bare naked. However, the organisers covered it with cloth and presented it to her.

For her work, the singer has been the reciepient of Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Maharashtra Bhushan Award, NTR National Award, ANR National Award, three National Film Awards and seven Filmfare awards.

The singer's last rites ceremony will be held today evening at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. Her funeral will be performed with full state honours in the presence of PM Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, other dignitaries and her family.
