It’s been a long wait for the makers of Lalbagh. The Mamta Mohandas-starrer, which is directed by Prashanth Murali Padamanabhan, had completed shooting last year but had to delay its release several times due to the pandemic lockdowns.

The team had reportedly even considered OTT release last year, but opted against it. The multi-starrer that Mamta in the lead, also features Rahul Madhav, Sijoy Varghese, Neha Saxena and Ajit Koshy in pivotal roles.

What is the story of Lalbagh?

Lalbagh has Mamta playing a Malayali nurse based in Bengaluru. The drama-thriller is about a murder that happens during a birthday party that is attended by six people. Through its non-linear narrative, the movie evolves through the perspectives of these six people as it analyses what happens before and after the birthday bash.

Prashant had earlier directed Mamta in Paisa Paisa. The upcoming movie will be released in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. As it is set extensively in Bengaluru, about 40% of the film has the characters speaking in Kannada. Ahead of the film’s release, the makers had released the videos of the film’s songs with Rumaal Ambili that was rendered by Mamta, Zia-Ul-Haq and Rahul Raj being a popular track.

When is Lalbagh releasing?

Lalbagh is set to hit theatres across Kerala on November 19. It will mark Mamta’s first theatrical release this year. She was part of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Bhramam earlier this year. The film had released directly on Amazon Prime Video.

While the release of Lalbagh was delayed due to the pandemic, the movie won critical acclaim when it was screened at South Asian International Film Festival and New Jersey Indian and International Film Festival the past year.
