Lal Salaam, starring Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in a significant role, was released on Friday in theatres. The cricket-based action drama has collected close to Rs 8 crore on day one of its release worldwide.
As per reports, the film has collected Rs 5 crore at the domestic box office. Lal Salaam is directed by Rajinikanth’s elder daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, and also features Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles.

As per reports, Lal Salaam received 60% occupancy on the first day of its release in theatres. The action drama is close to Rs 8 crore, with Rs 5 crore coming from Tamil Nadu collections. It is expected that the collections will pick up as the film marches towards the weekend, given how Rajinikanth enjoys a massive fan following in Tamil Nadu.

On the day of the release, Lal Salaam opened to a lukewarm response from the critics. “Lal Salaam is a film with noble intentions but is wary of what it has to say. The drama also becomes an oblong narration with blotched editing and an erratic screenplay. Lal Salaam is honest but is marred by weak choices,” reads the OTTplay review of the film.
What is Lal Salaam about?
Lal Salaam is a period drama that unfolds in two places: a village in Tamil Nadu and Mumbai. The film follows the clashes that exist between Muslims and Hindus in the village, against the backdrop of cricket. While Vikranth plays Rajinikanth’s son, Vishnu Vishal plays a local cricketer named Thirunavakarasu. Others in the cast include Senthil, Jeevitha, Thambi Ramaiah, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Vivek Prasanna, and Thangadurai, among others. Directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, it marks her first collaboration with her father. The film is backed by Lyca Productions.

Rajinikanth’s upcoming projects
Rajinikanth, who was last seen in the full-fledged role in Jailer, is currently working with TJ Gnanavel for a film titled Vettaiyan. The film is also backed by Lyca Productions. After this, he also has a film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj tentatively titled Thalaivar 171.
