Lakshmana OTT release date: When and where to watch director R Chandru’s Anup Revanna launchpad

The 2016 action flick, which also starred Meghana Raj and Ravichandran, is coming to OTT this Friday

Director R Chandru’s 2016 action flick Lakshmana was the launchpad of Anup Revanna, the son of politico HM Revanna. The film, the Kannada remake of the Telugu film Athanokkade (by Surender Reddy), is a revenge saga that was high on action and violence, earning it an A certificate. The film’s teaser was launched by SS Rajamouli back then. The remake rights of the Telugu film had been bagged by Anup’s father, as he was keen that the young actor take on the role done by Kalyan Ram in the original.

When the film released in theatres it was widely panned by critics, who dubbed it old wine in an old bottle, with the premise remaining hackneyed. According to the official description, Lakshmana is about Lakshmana, a happy-go-lucky soul, with has a hidden truth. Anjali, too, a happy person, is on a mission to avenge a personal loss. The two seem to be star-crossed for they not only fall in love after meeting in college but realize they are on the same path for revenge.

The film, produced by Sai Ranga Entertainment, which had music by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Santhosh Rai Pathaje, also starred Meghana Raj, Ravichandran, Sadhu Kokila, Chikkanna, Pradeep Rawat, Prabhakar, Chitra Shenoy, Avinash, Sridevi Vijaykumar and John Kokken in pivotal roles. It is now set to get an OTT outing, when it drops on Voot Select as this week’s Friday premiere.

After Lakshmana, Anup had followed up with a film called Panta, directed by S Narayan in 2017. The actor has been missing in action since then, but will make a comeback of sorts with his debut director R Chandru’s next, the magnum opus Kabzaa, which has Real Star Upendra in the lead and is based on the life of a gangster who ruled south India in the 60s and 70s.
