Can Lady Gaga Lee Get Her Spin-Off?

Joker: Folie à Deux is finally on the big screen and is receiving a lot of attention. The movie has opened to polarizing reviews, which is never ideal for any film. However, one consistent point across all reviews is the praise for Lady Gaga. The singer-actor has portrayed Harley Quinn, aka Lee, with strength, and her performance speaks for itself. She plays a woman who manipulates Joker into falling in love with her due to her obsessive infatuation, determined not to let her love go unfulfilled. While it’s confirmed that there won’t be a Joker 3 the question remains: can Lady Gaga’s Lee get her own spin-off?

Can Lady Gaga’s Lee Get a Spin-off?

After realizing the consequences of his actions, Arthur abandons his Joker persona, accepting his crimes and the punishment that follows. This change in him deeply upsets Lee because it was always the Joker she loved and admired. She leaves Arthur, walking away from him because he is no longer the Joker she fell in love with. Lee had done everything to be with Joker and envisioned building a life together with him. The movie ends with her walking away on the same iconic stairs where so much of the Joker's story unfolded.

While the movie doesn't clarify where she is headed or what her plans are, there’s a strong possibility that she could take on Joker’s mantle. With her hair cut and a transformed persona, she could become the new agent of chaos in Gotham, now that she is free from Arkham Asylum. The idea of a spin-off featuring Lee, fully embracing madness and wreaking havoc, is not far-fetched.

However, the mixed reception of Joker: Folie à Deux and its polarizing reviews might slow down any immediate plans for such a project. Yet, James Gunn might see potential in the concept. Lady Gaga is a top-tier talent and a powerhouse performer. She brought a fresh edge to the lore of Harley Quinn, playing a woman who was madly in love with Joker, a man abandoned by society. Seeing her go solo and take control of Gotham, even if only for a brief moment, could be an exciting direction.

Lady Gaga Wants More

Meanwhile, Todd Phillips, the creator behind this version of Harley Quinn (Lee), has already confirmed that he has no further plans to work with the DCU and that this was the only Joker story he wanted to tell. Therefore, the chances of Phillips returning to expand this story are slim. However, Lady Gaga has expressed her interest in continuing with the character, stating that there’s much more to explore. According to Comic Book Movie Gaga said, "I definitely don’t feel done with Lee as a character. She’s got so much to say. What an interesting gal."
