Filmmaker Kiran Rao, the former spouse of superstar Aamir Khan, is set to kick off the second summer edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) with her directorial venture, 'Laapataa Ladies,' by the end of this month. Celebrating its 15th year, IFFM is renowned for showcasing the vibrant essence of Indian cinema to a global audience. The IFFM Summer Festival starts February 29 and continues until March 2. Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies,' which made its world premiere at the esteemed Toronto International Film Festival, has garnered praise from critics and received numerous accolades. The film, slated for release on March 1, 2024, will have its Australian premiere on February 29 as part of the IFFM Summer Festival.
Laapataa Ladies is scheduled to hit theaters in India on March 1. However, the film's official OTT partner has not been disclosed by the makers. Speculations suggest that the movie will be available on Jio Cinema following its theatrical release. Nevertheless, the exact OTT release date remains undisclosed at this time.
In this comedy film, two newly-wed brides find themselves inadvertently separated from their families and in-laws during a train journey. As their families embark on a frantic search, one bride stumbles upon a previously unknown world, while the other challenges patriarchal norms, causing a stir.
The lead actors in the film are Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam.
The supporting cast includes Bhaskar Jha, Durgesh Kumar, Geeta Aggarwal, Pankaj Sharma, Rachna Gupta, Abeer Jain, Kirti Jain, Daood Hussain, Pranjal Pateriya, Samarth Mohar, Satendra Soni, Ravi Kapadiya, and Kishore Soni.

The trailer of the film was released on January 24, 2024. After a 13-year hiatus, Kiran Rao returns to the director's chair with Laapataa Ladies, following her last critically acclaimed film, Dhobi Ghat. The film's trailer was unveiled, jointly produced by Kiran's ex-husband and actor Aamir Khan, alongside Jyoti Deshpande. Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Nitanshi Goel take on the lead roles in this rural India-based narrative, where Laapataa Ladies delves into the story of two young brides who find themselves swapped during a train journey.
