Laapataa Ladies has been collectively backed by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande.
Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies picked up at the box office on its second day after taking a slow opening on Friday. The film collected ₹1.6 crore on Saturday, after collecting ₹0.75 crore on its first day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film took its total collection to ₹2.35 crore.
Laapataa Ladies has an overall occupancy rate of 18.88 percent at the ticket window. With this film, Kiran Rao returns to the director's chair. She last directed the film Dhoni Ghat, which was also her debut film as a director.
The film stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Ravi Kishan, and Sparsh Shrivastava in important roles. The film also stars Hemant Soni, Durgesh Kumar, Satendra Soni and Chhaya Kadam. It is collectively backed by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande.
The film revolves around a newly married guy who loses his new bride on a packed train and is now with the wrong bride. He then goes on a search for his real wife after he realizes his mistake after reaching his village.
The film has been doing well on its second day after the positive word of mouth for the film. The film received a good jump on its second day and is expected to go higher on Sunday collection if the positive word of mouth keeps spreading around the film. However, if we look at the collections in comparison to how movies should do at the ticket window, the film is practically suffering at the box office with its collections.
Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times, Kiran Rao spoke about how she found herself with Laapataa Ladies. She was quoted as saying, “I was laapataa without really intending to be. I was in the world of storytelling but in the background. There was that frustration where I was waiting to make the right thing. Although I do think the wait helped me find myself. My skill improved, I have a better command over my craft now."
