L2 Empuraan teaser release date, time - Prithviraj reveals when Mohanlal-starrer's first glimpse will be out with a poster that suggests a link to Freemasons and Illuminati. Let's decode...
Fans have been eagerly waiting for any titbits of information on L2 Empuraan, and Prithviraj Sukumaran who is fully aware of the weight of expectations on the Mohanlal-starrer is not the one to disappoint them. Prithviraj has revealed that the L2 Empuraan teaser release date will be out on January 26, 2025, along with an interesting poster. Let’s decode the poster which hints a Freemasons and Illuminati link to Lucifer’s world.
Prithviraj Sukumaran took to Instagram on Friday and revealed that the teaser of L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, will be out at 7.07pm on January 26, 2025. Though we are excited to get a confirmation on the teaser release date, what caught our attention was the poster he unveiled along with the announcement.
The poster, which has apocalyptic vibes, shows a series of cars making their way forward while in the background there is a tower, which resembles the Washington Monument. The poster image appears to be taken from inside a building, with the parts of a door frame clearly visible, literally giving a glimpse into this world that Prithviraj has build with his writer Murali Gopy.
Fan theories about L2 Empuraan’s link to Freemasons, and more specifically Illuminati have been doing the rounds on social media for a while now.
The terms of Illuminati and Freemason were probably introduced to most of the millennials in Kerala through Dan Brown's novels. Now, the L2 Empuraan poster has suggested a Freemasonry link with its Washington Monument lookalike tower. While brushing up the memory as a Dan Brown fan, the internet tells me that Freemasons originated during the medieval times in Europe and is believed to be the largest secret society in the world. George Washington, who became the first President of the United States in 1789, is believed to be a Freemason. And it was Freemasons who symbolically laid down the cornerstone for what was to become the Washington Monument.
Illuminati, on the other hand, is also a secret group but is not connected directly to Freemasons, according to The Week. Despite having similar symbols and recruiting from their lodges, Illuminati is not considered a part of Freemason. Some reports even state that the Illuminati existed for a relatively short period of time of more than a decade.
But what connects Freemasons and Illuminati are the theories that both these groups are considered very powerful with significant historical figures among their ranks and the power to dominate the world’s affairs.
Coming back to the Malayalam movie, the 2019 Lucifer ended with Stephen Nedumbally revealing that he is in fact Khureshi Abraam. With Stephen ditching his all-white ensemble for the sleek black attire of Khureshi, anticipation is high that L2 Empuraan is about to enter a dark world. With this Freemason-Illuminati link that the poster has thrown our way, there is speculation that Abraam could be a part of the discreet network. The darker shades of his character are likely to be explored in L2E along with that of Zayed Masood, played by Prithviraj himself. Earlier reports had suggested that Karthikeya Dev will be playing the younger Zayed, suggesting that the film will include his origin story.

Lucifer, considered more of a mass movie from Malayalam, predominantly delved into the political struggle in the small state of Kerala, though at the very beginning, we are told about an Interpol probe. When Stephen (Mohanlal) runs into troubled waters, Zayed Masood comes to his aid, and it is revealed that Stephen is no ordinary Kerala politician. But in L2 Empuraan, fans will be looking for an answer to who exactly is Stephen, introduced first as an orphan, and the links to the Interpol probe. The Freemason or Illuminati link is not a film thread explored in Malayalam cinema, that is known for its rooted stories and closer-to-life dramas. If Prithviraj does manage to pull off this, it would definitely put L2 Empuraan in an altogether different league. But with Lucifer being a trilogy, we can trust the multi-talented filmmaker to leave us with more questions as he sets the stage for Part III.
L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal along with Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier and Indrajith, will release in theatres on March 27, 2025.
