L2 Empuraan director Prithviraj Sukumaran recently took to his official social media handles and reacted to the rumours on Lyca Productions’ exit from the Mohanlal starrer.
L2 Empuraan, the highly anticipated upcoming sequel to the 2019-released blockbuster Lucifer, is nearing the final stages of its shooting. Mohanlal is returning to play the role of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Abraam in the film directed by actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran. Recently, it was rumoured that Lyca Productions, the popular banner which co-produces L2 Empuraan, exited the project. However, director Prithviraj Sukumaran put the rumours to rest, with a social media post.
Recently, it was rumoured that Lyca Productions, the popular Tamil banner which is set to make its Malayalam debut with L2 Empuraan, backed out from the project. The reports suggest that the co-producers decided to exit the Mohanlal starrer, due to production issues. The sources close to the project suggest that Lyca Productions has not been fulfilling their obligations as the co-producer, due to the ongoing financial issues. However, director Prithviraj Sukumaran slammed the rumours with a recent social media post.

The actor-filmmaker recently announced the team wrapped up the Hyderabad schedule and kickstarted the second Thiruvananthapuram schedule, with a social media post, recently. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who shared a location still from the sets of L2 Empuraan, made sure that he tagged Lyca Productions, along with Mohanlal and Aashirvad Cinemas, in the post. “Hyd —-> Tvm. #L2E #Empuraan @LycaProductions @aashirvadcine @Mohanlal,” wrote Prithviraj, who confirmed that the Tamil production banner is still very much on board. However, reports suggest that the production issues are not solved, yet.
After wrapping up the brief Hyderabad schedule, Prithviraj Sukumaran and his team have moved back to Kerala’s capital city Thiruvananthapuram, to film the pending portions. Later, the team is expected to move to Vandiperiyar of Idukki district, for the next schedule. If thing go as planned, the entire filming of the upcoming Mohanlal starrer will be wrapped up by November 2024. The makers are planning to have a March 2024 release for the Lucifer sequel.
