Kurukkan, a comedy investigation drama, stars Sreenivasan, Vineeth Sreenivasan, and Shine Tom Chacko in pivotal roles
Kurukkan, helmed by debutant Jayalal Divakaran, is an investigation comedy film that has been released in theatres. The movie has received mixed reviews, with some criticising it for its illogical scenes and disappointing humour attempts.
Now, the scriptwriter of Kurukkan, Manoj Ramsingh, has said that the movie faced cyber degradation on the booking platform BookMyShow, but has otherwise received good theatre responses.
Speaking to The Cue Studio, Manoj said, "Some people had asked for money from the producers of Kurukkan before its release, which they refused to give. Around 200 reviews are on BookMyShow for the film, and most of the low ratings have been given as part of a planned attack to degrade the movie. I understood this after conducting a check on certain email addresses from which the ratings were posted. Even though the ratings are low on BookMyShow, the theatre response and other reviews are promising. People who spend money to watch a film have the right to criticise it. I am open to constructive criticism and will try to reduce flaws in my next script," he said.
The script for Kurukkan was reworked. Commenting on this, Manoj said, "Initially, the film was treated as a serious crime investigation drama. After reading the script, Vineeth Sreenivasan pointed out that it would be risky and suggested that the screenplay be rewritten by adding comedy elements. Vineeth suggested that we do a movie like Pattana Pravesham and I thought he was right because I had approached him with the script of Kurukkan during a time when a lot of serious investigation thrillers were being made in Malayalam. So, I decided to change the script by rewriting Vineeth's dialogues and its presentation."
Kurukkan marks the return of veteran actor Sreenivasan to films. It also stars Srikant Murali, Gowri Nandha, Shine Tom Chacko, Sruthy Jayan, and Ashwath Lal in lead roles.
