Kurukkan, starring Sreenivasan and Vineeth Sreenivasan, will be streaming from August 25
Kurukkan, the investigative comedy helmed by Jayalal Divakaran and starring Sreenivasan and Vineeth Sreenivasan, received mixed reviews when it released in theatres in July. The film was criticised for its illogical humour and the lack of a gripping storyline that is required for an investigative drama.
But now, the film is gaining popularity days before its OTT release. A video clip of Vineeth singing the 'Oo Antava' song from Allu Arjun's Pushpa has been leaked online and has received a lot of attention from netizens.
The scene in the leaked clip is a courtroom sequence in the film, in which a video of Vineeth singing the song is produced as evidence. The clip has sparked a meme fest, with people from other language industries also sharing the clip.
The Kurukkan controversy
Kurukkan, which marks the comeback of Sreenivasan in a full-length role, is scripted by Manoj Ramsingh, who is known for films like Minnaminungu and Moneyback Policy. Manoj had accused the online booking platform BookMyShow of purposely uploading negative reviews about the film.
He had also said that Kurukkan was written like a serious investigation drama, but was later changed to a comedy upon Vineeth's suggestion.
Sreenivasan-Vineeth Sreenivasan combo
Kurukkan also sees the collaboration of the father-son duo Sreenivasan and Vineeth in full-length roles after Aravindante Athidhikal. In an interview with OTTplay, Vineeth expressed his happiness at his father making a comeback to films through a comedy film like Kurukkan. Vineeth and Sreenivasan will also be seen together in Aravindante Athidhikal director M Mohanan's Oru Jathi Oru Jathakam.
