While a large section of Malayalam audience was surprised when a photo from the sets of Bheeshma Parvam director Amal Neerad’s latest collaboration with Kunchacko Boban started doing rounds, those in the know were aware of the filmmaker and the Padmini actor being in discussions for a film the past few months.

The surprise was mainly because a lot of people had expected Amal to once again team up with Mammootty, after Big B and Bheeshma Parvam, for a ‘mass’ action thriller. Some even hoped that the duo will announce updates on the sequel of Big B, Bilal , on Mammootty’s birthday on September 7. However, that wasn’t to be.

That said, there’s still enough surprises packed in Amal’s latest project, which is reportedly scripted by Unni R. The film, which marks the director’s first collaboration with Kunchacko, has the actor essaying the role of an antagonist, we hear. While there’s no official confirmation regarding this yet, the film’s hero apparently is Sharafudheen, while Kunchacko will be essaying the role of the villain in the movie that also has Jyothirmayi marking her comeback. Veena Nandakumar is the other actress in the yet-to-be-titled action-thriller.

It's not the first time that Amal has decided to cast a leading actor in the role of an antagonist. Jayasurya had played the role of the iconic villain Angoor Rawther in Fahadh Faasil’s Iyobinte Pusthakam.

The Kunchacko-starrer, which has completed its first schedule, is expected to resume shooting from September 22. More actors are expected to join the film’s shoot. Sushin Shyam, who had also composed the music for Amal’s Varathan and Bheeshma Parvam, is part of this movie too along with cinematographer Anend C Chandran.

Kunchacko Boban’s next release is Chaaver

Kunchacko, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of Tinu Pappachan’s Chaaver , which is expected to hit theatres soon. While the makers had earlier announced a September 21 release date for the political thriller, the movie could be pushed by a week, setting up a clash with Mammootty’s Kannur Squad that also releases on September 28.
