The actor was seen in a totally different avatar, acing the break dance steps in the remix of the song Devadoothar Paadi from Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval’s movie
It’s no secret that Kunchacko Boban is arguably one of the best dancers in Malayalam cinema. Even now, the actor can give a run any of today’s young stars a run for their money and his latest video from Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval Nna, Thaan Case Kodu is proof.
The actor, seen in an aged, pot-bellied avatar in the remix of the song Devadoothar Paadi from the movie, caught the attention of fans once again as shook a leg in the video. The contrast of a break-dance to a choir song at a temple festival added further attraction to the video of the song, which was first composed by Ouseppachan for Mammootty’s movie Kaathodu Kaathoram.
We now hear that it wasn’t any other dance master who had choreographed the viral steps. It was Kunchacko Boban himself. The actor is already the first name that pops up when you think of the better dancers in the industry and his current performance cements that status in the minds of the audience.
The music director of the original track, Ouseppachan, also shared words of praise for Kunchacko's performance through his social media. He said that he is happy that the song that he conducted while playing the violin 37 years ago is still trending. The original track had AR Rahman playing the keyboard while Sivamani was on drums.
The original track, written by ONV Kurup, had also won the National Film Award for the Best Song that year. Rahman had assisted Ouseppachan in several films before venturing out as a composer on his own with Mani Ratnam's Roja in 1992. Check out the song from the 1985 film Kathodu Kathoram, which also marked Ouseppachan's debut as a music director.
Nna Thaan Case Kodu has Kunchacko playing a thief who takes the owner of dogs who had bitten him to the court. The satire, which is another courtroom drama from Malayalam after Jana Gana Mana, Vaashi and Mahaveeryar, also has Vikram fame Gayathrie Shankar in a pivotal role.
The movie has Kunchacko playing a character from North Kerala. In an earlier interview with us, Ratheesh had said that the film addresses a social issue and about 80% of the film happens inside a courtroom. “It’s a realistic film; though it will have its quirks, it will be balanced with the realistic elements. It won’t have the usual long court speeches,” he said.
Kunchacko is also co-producing the movie, which is set to hit theatres on August 12 along with Tovino Thomas and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Thallumaala.
