This will perhaps be the first and the only time the Bollywood industry is being portrayed in a Marvel movie
Kumail Nanjiani in Eternals
The MCU's next cinematic offering, Eternals might be the most unique Marvel movie yet. Directed by the Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, the film is about Eternals, a group of almost immortal cosmic beings sent to Earth to protect humanity from Deviants. Each team member possesses special abilities, from super speed to flying.
Nate Moore, the producer of the film, spoke to screenrant about the film and revealed Kumail Nanjiani's character in the film. He said it has a Bollywood movie within the Marvel movie and Kumail is essentially playing Richard Madden.
From the trailer, we gather that the Eternals arrived on Earth thousands of years ago and have remained in the hiding, secretly watching humanity from afar. But Kumail Nanjiani's Kingo is not chosen to do that. He is in fact an established Bollywood star. Nanjiani also reportedly performs a special number for the movie. Eternals is the only Marvel movie so far to ever feature such a sequence.
The producer further told the portal that the idea was conceptualised due to Kingo's own skillset. The creative team jumped at the opportunity and decided to bring Bollywood to the MCU. Moore said: "When we first meet him in the present day, you see a Bollywood performance - and Bollywood means a lot of different things to different people, but they're just some ideas of how we can express that and truly bring Bollywood to people and not its Hollywood version," he said.
As for Kingo's character in the film, he's likely to play Ikaris (Richard Madden), said the producer. Kingo's Bollywood costume, shared in the trailer, is quite similar to the blue suit that Madden's hero wears. It will be interesting to watch the superpowered being become a famous Bollywood star, and that too in a Marvel movie.
Eternals will release in theaters on November 5.
