The film about the agrarian crisis in North Karnataka, carries the tagline, ‘Right Fight for the Right’
In the last several weeks, Kannada actor Naveen Shankar, best known for films like Gultoo, Gurudev Hoysala and Hondisi Bareyiri, among others, has been busy travelling across the state to promote his next as a leading man, Kshetrapathi.
Directed by debutant Srikant Katagi, the film is set in north Karnataka and explores the issue of farmers’ suicide from the perspective of the protagonist, played by Naveen, whose father ends his life, when his issues become too much to handle. An engineer working in Bengaluru, Naveen’s character is then forced to leave his plush life behind, to address the issues faced back home by farmers. How he takes on this uphill battle forms the crux of the narrative, as per the trailer of the film, which came out today.
The actor is yet again paired with Archana Jois in the film. The duo were seen together in this year’s Hondisi Bareyiri, which did phenomenally well once out on OTT. Naveen and Archana’s pairing was widely discussed. While there is a romantic angle to their arc, Archana will be seen as a journalist who helps Naveen in his fight to get farmers what is rightfully theirs.
Kshetrapathi releases in theatres on August 18, only a week after Rajinikanth’s Jailer. The Superstar’s film has opened to good reviews and holds a massive number of shows/screens in Karnataka. It remains to be seen how many of those screens will be opened up for next week’s Kannada releases, which also includes the dark comedy Baang.
