Is the actor’s ‘interview for everyone’ policy beginning to backfire?
Darshan speaking at the Kranti press meet in October
In the last couple of weeks, pretty much every day a few full video interviews with Challenging Star Darshan, or smaller capsules from it, have been dropping on YouTube. At the first-ever press conference for Kranti in early October, which was ‘boycotted’ by most mainstream media channels, especially television medium, owing to an ongoing strife with the actor, the Kannada superstar had said that he would give everyone who did turn up (a large number of social media influencers) one-on-one interviews, but requested each of them to come with well prepared questions.
As he counts down to the release of the film on January 26, it appears that the promotional plan is experiencing hiccups. A few days ago, a YouTube channel was refused an interview with the actor at the last moment, even though the questions were shared with the film team. And now it seems that there are more issues with the interviews that have been done already, with the status of some being changed to private viewing only. One of the actor’s official fan pages took to Twitter and wrote, “Sincere request to YouTubers who are interviewing #DBoss and posting edited Videos on their channel. Kindly don't alter the video by editing your answers to the questions asked by DBoss during the course of the Interview! If you wish to do that, kindly don't have the interviews in the first place. Thanks for the understanding.”
When there is only limited stuff to discuss about Kranti in the run-up to its release and questions about his career over the last 25 years also have to be asked without seeming repetitive, no doubt, each of these influencers who have been called in to interview Darshan will attempt to highlight something he said to draw the attention of viewers to their channel. Now the question is, is the actor being portrayed in a bad light and his answers being presented out of context? Wasn’t that a similar issue he had with TV media?
