Darshan's latest film is coming to OTT within a month of its theatrical outing
Kannada superstar Darshan’s latest film, Kranti, which released in theatres less than a month ago, is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The film, according to the team, is a commercial success, although industry trackers say that is far from the truth. Kranti did not have a great box office run and the Rs 109 crore figure that the team ‘celebrated’ is likely a sum of theatrical, non theatrical and other expected revenue, they say. The fact that the film has come on OTT within a month’s time is also seen as a sign that Kranti has had a dismal theatrical outing and that the team and the streamer are making it available while there is still some interest in it.
With the film’s OTT release, there is a fresh round of ‘Harikrishna bashing’ taking place on social media. Kranti is composer-turned-filmmaker Harikrishna’s second directorial, but first that he’s handled by himself. His earlier Yajamana was mostly directed by Pon Kumaran. When Kranti released, one of its biggest failings was said to be Harikrishna’s script and handling thereof. Audiences had said that he was totally inept at filmmaking and should stick to his expertise – composing music. Netizens who’ve now caught the film on OTT are singing the same tune again.
“Harikrishna is not at all suitable for Movie director #Kranti main negative is only Harikrishna's direction...He is one of the best KFI Music directors 🙌 but as a movie director big letdown,” wrote a user by the name Virat Rocky. Pradeep Karunadu, added, “Watching #Kranti: There is one interview at the beginning. A foreign interviewer keeps asking questions in English and Darshan replies back only with irrelevant jaatre dialogues. Hardly looked like business interview. Yappa harikrishna avare. Dodd namaskara!”
Incidentally, Harikrishna was not at the ‘success’ meet that the team had, during which a cake with the mysterious 109 emblazoned on it, was cut.
