There was speculation that the makers were still in negotiations with another platform for the Hindi version, but that’s not the case
When Challenging Star Darshan’s Kranti released less than a month ago, the title credits only had Amazon Prime Video as the digital partner, which meant that the film in all its versions would be available on the streamer. But earlier today, when the official streaming date announcement came, it read that Kranti would be available in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam on February 23. So, what happened to the Hindi version?
Initially, the buzz was that the makers were trying to sell the Hindi version to another platform, as has been successfully done by Rakshit Shetty for 777 Charlie (Kannada on Voot Select and other language versions on Amazon Prime Video rental only) and Rishab Shetty for Kantara (south languages on Prime Video and Hindi and English on Netflix). But the latest is that the rights of the Hindi version also rest with Prime Video, and that the reason it isn’t coming on February 23 is because the dubbing for it is yet to be completed. Actor and voice-over artiste Damandeep Singh Baggan is reportedly dubbing for Darshan.
Days before Kranti’s theatrical release, producer Shylaja Nag had been asked about the plans for the other language versions and she had said that she was yet to make a business decision as to whether to bring those also to movie halls or take them directly to OTT. Kranti was released in Kannada only eventually, with its distribution in other parts of the country quite limited. There was no overseas release either. Industry trackers said that occupancy was low for Kranti across the state, but the team claimed it was success and even celebrated the same. Yet despite these claims, the film is headed to OTT within a month, which, is generally seen as a sign of poor box office performance, and an attempt to cash in on the popularity of the title and the star while it’s still hot.
