Kousalya Supraja Rama is director Shashank’s 10th directorial and has Darling Krishna in the lead. The film releases in theatres on July 28
Kannada filmmaker Shashank has written, directed and co-produced his next, Kousalya Supraja Rama, which his 10th as a filmmaker. The film has Darling Krishna in the lead and he’s paired with Premam Poojyam fame Brinda Acharya, although the former’s wife, Milana Nagaraj also has a pivotal role. With the film set to release in theatres on July 28, the team revealed the trailer on July 14.
Speaking at the launch, Shashank said that he firmly believes that Kousalya Supraja Rama is his best work to date. “This story has multiple dimensions to it and the content is extremely relatable. When audiences in the age group of 18 and above watch the film, they will connect to the characters in the film. These days, finding a story that works for all audiences is not easy. I think I have cracked the formula and believe that the film will have the desired effect at the box office,” says Shashank, adding, “I have tried to portray Krishna differently, not only in terms of his onscreen look, but characterisation as well. I wanted him to break out of the Love Mocktail mould.”
Kousalya Supraja Rama, according to the trailer, revolves around Rama (Krishna) the son of Siddegowda (Rangayana Raghu), who has grown up seeing his father treat his mother Kousalya (Sudha Belawadi) with zilch respect and even landing the occasional blow on her. Siddegowda’s chauvinistic ways are deeply entrenched in Rama that he believes women are inferior to men. Then, he meets Shivani (Brinda Acharya) and sparks fly, but will she be able to root out Rama’s world view of how a man should be with a woman and turn him around?
As much as the story is about the love story, Shashank adds that a major arc also revolves around the relationship dynamic between Kousalya and Rama, adding that Sudha has one of the best roles of her career in the film. The Arjun Janya musical also stars Nagabhushana and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles.
