Kottukkaali to premiere at Berlin International Film Festival; here’s all about this Soori-starrer drama

Soori and Malayalam actress Anna Ben are playing the lead roles in Kottukkaali, which is directed by P S Vinothraj.

The makers of the Tamil film Kottukkaali, also known as The Adamant Girl, have announced that the movie will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 16. Actor Sivakarthikeyan, who has bankrolled the film under his banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions, took to his social media handles to reveal this update.

“Our film #Kottukkaali, starring the phenomenal @soorimuthuchamy & @benanna_love - directed by @psvinothraj, premieres at the prestigious @berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) on Feb 16th. Witness a captivating tale unfold on the global stage,” the Ayalaan actor wrote.

Soori and Malayalam actress Anna Ben are playing the lead roles in Kottukkaali, which is directed by P S Vinothraj. The film marks Anna Ben’s debut in Tamil films. Prior to this, the filmmaker directed the critically acclaimed movie Koozhangal, which took home the Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam.

The main character of Kottukkaali is a young woman who falls in love with a man from a lower caste, but her family believes she is possessed and has been the victim of a spell.

Actor Sivakarthikeyan released the first-look teaser for the film in March last year. While sitting inside an autorickshaw, Anna Ben's character is seen to be completely disoriented, despite attempts to wake her up from her reverie by asking her to get down. Additionally, a rooster sits on the vehicle's seat. Soori, meanwhile, is puffing away and staring intently at something. The video opens with a person ringing a number of bells.

Social media is buzzing with anticipation following the teaser, and fans are speculating that the plot may differ significantly from Soori and Anna Ben's prior films.

Crew behind the Soori-starrer

The screenplay for Kottukkaali has been penned by the director himself. B Sakthivel is the cinematographer, while Ganesh Siva has handled the editing work for the film. The executive producer is Banu Priya. The movie's theatrical release date has not yet been disclosed by its makers.
