The movie, which is directed by Sibi Malayil, is set to hit theatres on September 23
Director Sibi Malayil’s comeback movie Kotthu could be an intense affair, if its recently-released trailer is anything to go by. Tackling the theme of political violence, the film promises power-packed performances from its lead cast including Asif Ali, Roshan Mathew and Nikhila Vimal.
The trailer of the movie, which is produced by the makers of Ayyappanum Koshiyum, was released online on Friday and gave a glimpse of what the political thriller, set in Kannur, entails. The movie will have Asif and Roshan playing members of a communist party and how violence plays a major part in derailing their lives.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Asif had said that the reason he picked the film was because that a lot of real-world incidents that was happening during the time had left an impression in his mind. “I find certain films interesting because of what I hear about the incidents that are happening in our society. Sibi sir’s Kothu is a based on the emotions of political murders. The idea is that it affects the family more than the party,” he said.
The movie, which is currently scheduled to hit theatres on September 23, is scripted by Hemanth Kumar and also has director Ranjith Balakrishnan, Sudev Nair, Sreejith Ravi, Sreelakshmi, Vijilesh Kariyad and Athul Ram Kumar in pivotal roles. Jakes Bejoy has composed the background score of the film, which has songs by Kailas Menon.
Veteran filmmaker Sibi Malayil had previously worked with Asif in movies such as Apoorvaragam, Violin and Unnam. Kotthu marks this first collaboration in almost 10 years. Roshan, who plays a pivotal role in the movie, as also signed up another film with Sibi Malayil, which is also scripted by Hemanth Kumar. The movie is expected to go on floors this year. The actor is also part of Gold and Chathuram, which will also release this month.
