Kooman marks Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph’s first theatrical release in Malayalam in over three years
Count on director Jeethu Joseph to keep making intriguing thrillers that have its protagonists go through an array of emotions. The trailer of the Drishyam filmmaker’s latest movie Kooman, which has Asif Ali in the lead, was released on Wednesday and it promises to be another riveting ride.
The movie which revolves around a police and thief chase, centred on a CPO essayed by Asif, starts off with the cops being brought in to investigate a petty theft. This, however, takes a turn when a constable attached to the case becomes the one who is hunted. The trailer hints that Asif’s character, who is haunted by the case, takes it upon himself to catch the culprit.
The makers also announced the release date of the film along with its trailer. Kooman will hit theatres on November 4 along with movies such as Saturday Night, starring Nivin Pauly, Siju Wilson, Saniya Iyappan, Saiju Kurup and Grace Antony.
Asif has had a tepid year so far even though he was part of several acclaimed movies such as Mahaveeryar and Kotthu. The actor will be hoping that his first collaboration with Jeethu Joseph, whose previous releases such as Drishyam 2 and 12th Man have been direct-to-OTT films, will result in a turnaround at the box office.
Kooman also has Hannah Reji Koshy, Baburaj, Baiju Santosh and Renji Panicker in pivotal roles. The movie is scripted by KR Krishnakumar, who had previously written Mohanlal-Jeethu’s mystery thriller 12th Man. The upcoming movie is set against the backdrop of a rural village in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Asif had said that he loved the process of how Krishnakumar and Jeethu worked. The first half of the thriller was written by Krishnakumar and Jeethu had bought in the investigative elements in the film that appear in the second half, the actor had told us.
