The 29th Kolkata International Film Festival will start on December 5 this year. The week-long festival will pay tribute to the centenary birth year of legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen and actor Dev Anand. The KIFF website for this year’s film submission has opened, and the submission deadline is on August 31. According to sources close to the committee, this year, the festival will aim to bring back its pre-covid grandeur. “The years of the pandemic have impacted the grandeur of the festival. Since last year, we have been getting back on our feet. This year, we aim to bring back the glory. Along with the guests and delegates across the country, this year we aim to bring guests from all over the world like before,” said a source.
Last year, the Kolkata International Film Festival took place between December 15 and December 22. A total of 183 films from 42 countries, including 52 short films and documentaries, will be screened. Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Ranu Mukerji, Mahesh Bhatt, and several other dignitaries were present at the do.
