The tenth episode is nothing short of a royal visit with the mother-son duo of the Pataudi family – cinema legend Sharmila Tagore with multi-faceted prince Saif Ali Khan gracing the couch.
Koffee with Karan 8- Karan Johar-Sharmila Tagore-Saif Ali Khan
The celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan is rolling out its eighth season with new guests spilling the beans about their glamorous lives and bumpy careers. The tenth episode is nothing short of a royal visit with the mother-son duo of the Pataudi family – cinema legend Sharmila Tagore with multi-faceted prince Saif Ali Khan gracing the couch.
Saif Ali Khan’s reaction to bikini shoot
It is fascinating to know that this is officially the first time this royal mother-son duo teamed up for an interview. When the filmmaker host expressed overwhelming emotions on having the privilege to have Sharmila Tagore as his Koffee guest, the legendary actress reacted calmly and hinted that she is quite aware of the show with a slight tease over the controversial statements.
Karan Johar took the duo on a nostalgic trip when he asked the 79-year-old veteran actor how she broke the ground with the infamous bikini cover shot for Filmfare magazine. Johar shared how even the photographer became anxious about that shoot and asked to share the incidents that occurred during the time frame. Saif Ali Khan quipped on this and said even his friends from the boarding school asked him, “Is that your mum.” This took the Aradhana actress by surprise and before she could say anything, Saif added that he was quite proud of her.
How controversies erupted over the cover shoot
In the 1960s India, wearing a bikini and posing it on the cover shoot stirred controversies and Tagore became the talk of the town. “I was Interpreted it in such a way, that I was upwardly mobile. I was trying to catch eyeballs,” she remembered. However, she later revealed that she did it because she thought she looked nice, and the intention was carried away in a totally different direction.
The Amar Prem actress also reminisced about the time when the magazine came out and she was in London. “I was unaware till Shakti-ji called me and said to come back quickly because of terrible things happening..” For the unversed Tagore was referencing the filmmaker Shakti Samanta who advised her that if she wanted to be in the public eye, the approach had to be altered.
Speaking of the trolling and the reactions, the Kashmir Ki Kali star shared that there were even debates in the Indian Parliament about the shoot.
Overall the episode was a cosy yet fascinating episode with new secrets spilled out on the KWK couch.
Previously on Koffee with Karan, the Pataudi Khandaan’s Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Sara Ali Khan appeared with Alia Bhatt and Ananya Panday with fun banter and crusty details about their fabulous lives. The show is streaming on Disney+Hotstar
