Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes dropped its first teaser trailer this Thursday, enchanting fans with intriguing new characters as well as twists in plot. The film is scheduled to be released 2024 in the theatres. The teaser trailer offers a first look into the fate of the Simian population.

In the previous film of the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise, War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar dies while leading the apes into a safe haven. In Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the audience will see Caesar’s son Cornelius follow his father’s teachings and direction and attempt to end the constant conflict between apes and humans.

Just like Caesar’s (Andy Serkis) legacy is continued by his son Cornelius (Owen Teague) in the sequel, there is a similar switch in directorship as well. Due to scheduling issues, Maze Runner director Wes Ball has been chosen to direct the film instead of Matt Reeves.

What does the trailer show?

The trailer opens on an ape civilization that has upgraded itself to domesticate animals and form society. Due to the Simian flu, its human survivors have ended up regressing into mute, primitive animals, that are often hunted by apes for recreation. However, one sees Cornelius maintain empathy in his approach, no matter a mute, starving human or an ape commoner.

The trailer also shows a tyrannical ape leader attempting to manipulate and enslave the common apes. With Cornelius’ strange dreams of the future colliding with the ape tyrant’s quest for human technology, the trailer promises an adventurous watch.
