King of Kotha Teaser: Twitter hails Dulquer Salmaan as the "new mass hero" of Mollywood
The larger-than-life hero is back in vogue and Dulquer Salmaan joins the elite list of modern-day actors that includes the likes of Allu Arjun, Jr. NTR, Prabhas and Rocking Star Yash. Dulquer would take matters into his own hands and turn producer once again (under Wayfarer Films) to put together his first bona fide mass film, which was later titled King of Kotha. The film, directed by Abhilash Joshiy, has been in the making for quite sometime and fans, film lovers and just about everyone have been raring to catch a proper glimpse of this alluring gangster world.
Well, the wait is finally over because the maiden King of Kotha teaser is here, comprising every bit of the mass and swagger that Dulquer Salmaan & Co. had promised. The 36-year-old actor, as the title suggests, is the King of the fictional town named Kotha who must take on not one but several adversaries in order to save the people of the land. “This isn’t Gandhigram, this is Kotha. Here when I say it’s day, it’s day. When I say it’s night, it’s night,” says Dulquer in the teaser to establish the rules as he wields power and swashes about in a manner that only he can. And perhaps it helps that the place he has chosen is filled with vibrant, equally larger-than-life characters.
Social media, ever since the teaser dropped, hasn’t been able to contain itself as netizens exclaim that a “new mass hero” has emerged in Mollywood. Be it Jakes Bejoy's thumping background score or Nimish Ravi’s snazzy visuals capturing the retro world, the teaser seems to have certainly done its job in enthralling the viewers and also amping up the expectations for the full-length film. The film, judging by these initial glimpses, may not be everyone’s cup of tea but for those fond of a ‘magnum opus’ experience, then seems like the perfect fix. King of Kotha is set to arrive in cinemas in August 2023 as an Onam release in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada.
