The wait is over! Malayalam superstar Dulquer Salmaan’s period gangster-actioner King of Kotha is finally out on OTT and the makers have sweetened the deal for the audience by also releasing a Kannada version of the film, which wasn’t available during its theatrical release on August 24.

Helmed by debutant Abhilash Joshiy, King of Kotha is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in four languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. The movie, which is scripted by Porinju Mariyam Jose writer Abhilash N Chandran, is one of the most expensive films in the career of Dulquer, who had also served as its producer.

What to expect from King of Kotha’s OTT version?

Unlike some of the recent Bollywood superhits such as Pathaan, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and even Jawan, which is set to release on Netflix soon , King of Kotha’s OTT version won’t have any additional footage or a re-edited version.

In fact, the film’s director Abhilash, in a recent interview with OTTplay, said that he hopes that the audience, after the second or third watch, would be able to identify and appreciate King of Kotha's intricacies that could have been missed during its theatrical release that came amid massive hype.

“There are certain layers that we had deliberately added. A lot of those things I don’t think came across to a lot of the audience,” he said, adding that maybe after its release on Disney+ Hotstar, the viewers would appreciate the film better.

Reasons to watch King of Kotha on OTT

Set in two timelines, King of Kotha revolves around the people in the fictional town of Kotha and how Raju, a gangster who used to rule the town goes into exile, is forced to return to reclaim what was his after his family is threatened by a friend-turned-foe.

Dulquer’s performance as the young and reckless Kotha Raju and the more matured and precise Raju Madrasi is one of the highlights of the film, which has an ensemble cast featuring Aishwarya Lekshmi, Chemban Vinod Jose, Shabeer Kalarakkal, Prasanna, Gokul Suresh and Shammi Thilakan.

The movie, which is mounted on a big scale, also has several action sequences which are elevated by Jakes Bejoy’s thumping music.
