Released in August, the Abhilash Joshiy-directed gangster action movie has received mixed reviews so far
Dulquer Salmaan’s landmark theatrical release of the year, King of Kotha has recently started streaming on OTT. The movie had received mixed reviews, with many criticising it for its style of making and dramatic dialogues. Nevertheless, actor Omar Lulu, who is known for films like Oru Adaar Love, has shared a positive response after watching King of Kotha on a digital platform. He took to Facebook (now Meta) to share his review and stated, “I watched King of Kotha and loved the film.” The Chunkzz director also praised Dulquer’s performance in the movie.
King of Kotha’s lukewarm performance at the box office
Directed by Abhilash Joshiy, King of Kotha was released in theatres on August 24. Despite extensive promotion and hype, the film failed to meet viewers’ expectations, and even received negative reviews. The cast and crew attributed the negative response to targeted campaigns against the film on social media which, according to them, significantly impacted its earnings. Co-produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Zee Studios, King of Kotha reportedly grossed around ₹40 crore worldwide, with a significant profit from the pre-release deals .

During an interview with OTTplay recently, the director said that he hopes viewers will be able to recognise and admire the intricacies of King of Kotha after watching it multiple times. He believes that these details may have been overlooked during the movie’s initial shows due to high expectations. King of Kotha is currently available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
Omar Lulu in Oru Adaar Love controversy
Recently, Omar was embroiled in a controversy when Sathyajith, the lyricist of Oru Adaar Love claimed in an interview that he was underpaid for his work in the film. However, in a separate interview, Omar strongly refuted the allegations, as did music composer Shaan Rahman. Sathyajith had also accused Shaan of not giving him due credit for the song Freak Penne in the film.
