It’s been a long wait for Dulquer Salmaan fans to see the superstar in a full-length ‘mass’ action entertainer! This culminated with King of Kotha, which is helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, and had its world premiere on August 23 in Dubai.
King of Kotha, which is already touted to set new box office records in the Malayalam film industry, is among the most-anticipated Malayalam movies this year and the makers have left no stone unturned to ensure that the promotions and marketing set a benchmark.
Judging from the first reactions after the film’s premiere in Dubai, Dulquer might already have a clear box-office winner in his hands with King of Kotha. While the first shows in India begin at 7am, the gangster-actioner, which also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Chemban Vinod Jose, Saran Sakthi, Gokul Suresh and Nyla Usha, had its premiere in Dubai at 10:30pm on August 23 and also shows from 4:30am in the US and Canada.

‘King of Kotha is a sure winner at the box office’
Right after the premiere in Dubai, fans began posting their reviews on Twitter. One user lauded the film’s making along with the performances of Dulquer, Shabeer and Nyla and said that though the storyline was predictable, “the treatment and making works”, making it a sure-shot box office winner.
Since the beginning, Dulquer and team have claimed that the film was mounted on a massive scale to provide a big-screen experience for the audience, and this has been reflected in the movie. A Twitter user praised the film’s “magical visuals” and said that King of Kotha provided one of the “best theatrical experience in recent times”.
Dulquer’s ‘mass’ scenes and fight sequences thrill audience
Dulquer’s fans were also pleased by how Abhilash presented the actor in the film, which has him playing Kotha Rajendran aka Raju. The movie shuttles between Raju’s past and present as he’s used by a police officer to seek revenge against Shabeer’s character Kannan bhai who lords over the fictional town of Kotha in the movie.
The fight sequences in the film along with Jakes Bejoy’s pulsating music in the “above average second half” seem to have added another dimension of theatre experience for the audience, according to the Twitter reactions after the Dubai premiere.
King of Kotha sets box office records
King of Kotha is set to hit 2,500 screens across 50 countries on August 24. The movie already did business of close to Rs 4 crore in advance ticket sales in Kerala and almost Rs 8 crore worldwide, according to trade analysts.
The film is also expected to become the highest opening-day grosser in Malayalam film industry this year, breaking the record set by Rajinikanth’s Jailer earlier this month.
